The Oklahoma Film + Music Office is hosting the first ever Oklahoma Film and Music Conference next week on November 14 & 15. The event will take place at Vast on the 50th floor of the Devon Tower and will feature two days of panels sessions, workshops, networking events, and exhibitions. The conference is open to anyone interested in the film and music industries. There is a nominal fee of $15 each day which can be paid on the website or at the event itself.

Oklahoma’s Wes Studi won an honorary Oscar last Sunday at the Governor’s Awards, becoming the first Native American to win an Academy Award. Studi, a full-blood Cherokee from Nofire Hollow, has appeared in more than 90 movie and television roles, creating memorable characters in legendary films since his breakout in 1991 Oscar winner Dances with Wolves.

The Battle of Honey Springs

Bishop McGuinness graduate Bryan Beasley returned to Oklahoma earlier this fall to direct a short film called The Battle of Honey Creek. This historical short film recounts the events that took place during Oklahoma’s largest Civil War engagement. The filming took place at the original Honey Springs battle site, located just north of what is now Checotah, Oklahoma.
